Hailey Gets a Scholarship

We are thrilled to announce that Hailey, one of our EMTs, has been awarded a scholarship to pursue her paramedic certification. Hailey joined our team two years ago and has quickly become a valued member of our crew — known for her clinical competence, her calm under pressure, and her genuine care for patients.

Investing in our people is one of the most important things we do. When we help a talented EMT become a paramedic, we’re building the long-term capacity of this service and of South County EMS. Congratulations, Hailey.

February: Heart Health Month

February is American Heart Month. Our paramedics respond to cardiac emergencies regularly — and the outcomes are dramatically better when bystanders act quickly. Know the signs of a heart attack: chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, pain radiating to the arm or jaw, nausea or cold sweat. Call 9-1-1 immediately. Don’t drive yourself.

CPR training saves lives. If you’d like to learn CPR, contact us about our community training programs.

Budget Season Update

We have completed budget presentations to all six of our assessment towns. The conversations have been productive. We understand that municipal budgets are under pressure this year — costs are up across every department, and revenues are constrained. We appreciate the thoughtful engagement of every board and finance committee we’ve met with.

Our annual town meeting season begins in May, starting with Great Barrington on May 2. We encourage residents to attend and to support our warrant articles.

Inter-Facility Transport: A Growing Part of Our Work

Join us on March 28 at 5:30pm at the Cove Bowling Lanes in Great Barrington.

In addition to 911 emergency response, we provide inter-facility transport (IFT) services for patients being transferred between hospitals and healthcare facilities. These transports require the same level of clinical skill as emergency calls — often more — and they represent an important and growing part of our work. Our paramedic-staffed IFT service is available for critical patients who need advanced life support during transport.

A Note on Mutual Aid

Honorable but Broken: EMS in Crisis documentary

Watch this riveting documentary on Amazon and TubiTV.

Southern Berkshire Ambulance Squad participates in formal mutual aid agreements with surrounding EMS services. When a neighboring service needs help, we respond. When we need help, they respond to us. This regional approach ensures that South County is never without coverage, even during our busiest periods. We are proud to be reliable partners in this system.
