For patients in need of a higher level of care during transport, Southern Berkshire Ambulance Squad offers Advanced Life Support (ALS) services. ALS transports provide invasive life-saving procedures including intravenous infusions, manual defibrillation, advanced airway management, and much more.

Our ALS transports are staffed by certified Advanced EMTs (AEMT) and/or certified Paramedics to administer specialized advanced medical care.

Patients who typically require ALS transport include:

  • Medical or surgical patients with continuous IV medication
  • Patients on a cardiac monitor
  • Trauma patients
  • Patients from urgent care centers
  • Patients with potential airway compromise
  • Any patient who may experience a complication during transport but does not require a Registered Nurse per state protocols

Paramedic intercept

In addition to direct ALS transport, we provide paramedic intercept services to New Marlborough, Sandisfield, and Otis. Our paramedics rendezvous with local Basic Life Support crews in the field, delivering advanced care when local services do not have a paramedic available. This is a critical capability in our rural region where distances are significant.
